Medford Area School Districts Hold Legislative Forum

The WASB government relations staff traveled to Medford March 7 to attend their annual legislative forum.  Many surrounding districts join together to hold this forum and it is well-attended by local school leaders and their area lawmakers.  Kudos to all of the districts participating on a great meeting!

District officials from several districts discussed a variety of issues with the legislators in attendance, including school funding, transportation costs, teacher shortages as well as others. A group of Medford Area students offered their perspectives on the required Civics graduation test.  The legislators listened, asked questions and offered their own perspective leading to a good and productive conversation.

The legislators in attendance were: Sen. Jerry Petrowski (R-Marathon), Sen. Janet Bewley (D-Ashland), Rep. Mary Czaja (R-Irma), Rep. James Edming (R-Glen Flora) and Rep. Bob Kulp (R-Stratford).

These are the kind of meetings we are encouraging more districts to hold.  We are providing the Medford meeting materials as an example that other districts may use (invites, agenda, legislator profiles, map): Medford 2016 Meeting Materials

Medford has also offered to answer any questions other districts might have about setting up a meeting like this.  You may contact Jennifer Kuenne at kuennje@medford.k12.wi.us if you have questions or would like more information.
