Bill to Allow School Board Members to Serve as Volunteer Coaches Passes Senate

Senate Bill 217, authored by state Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) and state Representative Nancy VanderMeer (R-Tomah), which would allow a school board member to serve as a volunteer coach or extracurricular activity supervisor was passed this week by the state Senate with strong bipartisan support on a vote of 29-2.  The bill now heads to the state Assembly where also this week the Assembly companion bill (Assembly Bill 299) was recommended for passage 13-0 by the Education Committee.

WASB will keep you updated here on the Legislative Update on Assembly floor action.  If the bill is passed by the Assembly without changes it will head to the Governor.
